Allergic rhinitis is an allergic reaction that affects the nasal passages, commonly triggered by allergens such as pollen, dust mites, mold, or pet dander. It is characterized by symptoms like sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose, itchy eyes, and coughing. These symptoms occur when the immune system overreacts to harmless substances, releasing chemicals like histamine that cause inflammation in the nasal lining.

There are two main types:

Seasonal allergic rhinitis: Triggered by outdoor allergens like pollen, often related to specific seasons (spring, summer, or fall).

Perennial allergic rhinitis: Triggered by indoor allergens, such as dust mites, pet dander, and mold, and can occur year-round.
